Cardiff D. Hall’s life changed without warning. One day, he went to work as usual in the morning, but by afternoon he no longer had a job. “That’s an event I didn’t plan for, didn’t know it was coming,” he remembers. “I just caught this tidal wave and, all of a sudden, it had completely changed my life.” Through reflection, goal setting and a lot of hard work, Hall eventually got past the wave. His new book, Tide Turners: The Practical Guide to Help You Feel in Control, Experience More Joy, and Sustain Achievement in Life, aims to help others to do the same.
Tide Turners, which Hall describes as “a book within a book,” is meant to help readers take stock of their lives, especially when challenges or setbacks—which Hall refers to as waves—inevitably arrive. While the waves may be inevitable, Hall says, there are ways to turn the tides in your favor. The book is a “guide to really take control of drifting along in life and give [the reader] the mechanisms and steps and processes to really take command and be the driver of the journey,” he says.
Hall, who lives in St. Louis Park with his wife, Dawn, and their 7-year-old daughter, takes the Tide Turners message to audiences across the country through regular speaking engagements and corporate collaborations, but he wants to share it with the local community as well. On the second Thursday of every month, he hosts the Tide Turners Fellowship at the St. Louis Park Library. Meetings are free and open to the public, and cover a variety of strategies and insights complementing those found in the book.
Above all, Hall says he hopes Tide Turners will be a meaningful resource to those feeling stuck in life, as he himself once did. “My goal is to have someone go through the guidebook and really feel confident, because they’ve gained clarity now,” Hall says. “That clarity is going to increase their confidence; it’s going to increase their hope. With confidence comes belief and with belief comes faith. And so they become intentional with living life on purpose.”
Tide Turners is available at Barnes & Noble stores, Amazon and the Cardiff Hall website.
